Goodwill Goodwins

Mike, or JD's Daddy of JD's Wild Cardz fame, sent me a random package of Goodwins from my want list last week. It was a very kind and generous thing to do, especially since we hadn't worked out a trade, and they were sent out of the blue.





I'm quite fond of the Citizens of the Day inserts. The design is solid, and I like how each one is slightly altered to match the time period that person was famous.

Mike, I thank you and JD for giving me a topic for post number 300, and thanks for the great cards as well! My Goodwin wantlist has been updated, and if you've got any need to spare, don't hesitate to contact me about a trade.

Allen & Ginter Status

Well... thanks to the generosity of the blogosphere, I have managed to complete the regular base set, and the National Pride inserts. However, I still need a bunch o' short prints, which is the same thing that happened to me last year. I didn't end up completing last year's set until this May, and I'd like to avoid that happening again if possible. My want list is updated, so if anyone has doubles to spare of the cards I need... let's talk.

The only mini insert set I care about this year are the Legends of Myth & Terror, and I'm making decent progress on that front as well. So far 7 of the 20 cards are in my possession. Since that is the only insert set I'm chasing, I have a whole bunch of other minis for trade. All National Heroes, black bordered minis, Hoaxes & regular minis are for trade. If you are someone who doesn't much care for the Creatures set, and are chasing one of the others... let's talk.

2009 Allen & Ginter's Want List

What is this?

Aside from the obvious fact that it's a stack of cards, this is how many doubles, triples, quadruples & quintuples that 4 boxes of Allen & Ginter's got me. I haven't counted, but this has to be somewhere around 500 cards that are essentially useless to me. Topps did a TERRIBLE job with collation, and there's NO WAY you should EVER get this many doubles out of 4 hobby boxes. To make matters worse, I'm nowhere near completing the base set, and may actually have more doubles than cards that go towards completing a set.

Expect a full breakdown of all 4 boxes sometime this week, along with trade & want lists.

Set Completed!

Thanks to Jeff of I Am Joe Collector, I have completed the 2008 Allen & Ginter base set. He sent me the final 7 short prints I was missing, and now I can say that I have officially completed a set. This is my first one ever, and I am relieved and thrilled to have it in the rear-view. Allen & Ginter has been my favorite release since my triumphant return to the hobby in late 2007, and is probably the only set, with the exception of some of the 50's Topps sets, that I can stand to look at long enough to collect the whole thing. I plan on building this years set as well. I can see how set building can become addictive. There's really something special about tracking down those last few cards needed for completion, and the feeling of accomplishment once you've tracked those suckers down. A little piece of satisfaction, in a world where that's sometimes hard to come by.

I really feel like I have accomplished something, and that's pretty awesome.

If anyone else is trying to finish up this set, I have a TON of doubles, including a bunch of short prints, that I will gladly send out. I don't even want anything in return. There are literally 3 550ct. boxes full of doubles that I need to get rid of to make room for this years set, once it comes out.
